Types of FSSAI Registration

There are three types of FSSAI registration, which are based on the annual turnover and food production of the business, which are given below:

1. Basic FSSAI Registration: Basic FSSAI Registration is mandatory for all Food Business Operators (FBOs) whose annual turnover is below ₹12 lakh. This is mainly for hawkers, petty retailers, temporary stall holders, roaming vendors, and tiny food operators.
2. State FSSAI Registration License: This is mandatory for the food business whose annual turnover is above ₹12 lakh but below ₹20 crore. The turnover is the same for a State manufacturing license or State Trading License. This license is valid for up to 5 yea₹
3. Central FSSAI Registration License: All food business operators whose annual turnover is above ₹ 20 crore must apply for the central FSSAI registration. In some instances, irrespective of the turnover, Central FSSAI is mandatory e.g., e-commerce operators, import food items, airport shops, etc. The central government issues this FSSAI license, which is valid for up to 5 years.

Documents Required for FSSAI License Registration in Bihar

FSSAI Basic Registration: Documents required

1. Proof of Identity - PAN Card
2. Evidence of the Address - Aadhar Card/voter ID/Driving License
3. Passport Size Photographs
4. Photograph of the premises (Exterior as well as Interior)
5. Proof of possession of premises (Sale deed/ Rent agreement/ Electricity bill, etc.) (optional)
6. List of Food Products manufactured, processed or traded
7. Details of the nature of the business
8. In the case of Company/LLP/Partnership - Business Incorporation Certificate/Partnership Deed
9. Identity and Address proof of all directors/Partners along with Nomination of Authorized Signatory in case of company/Partnership
10. Email id and mobile no of proprietor/directors/Partners

1. Transporter - List of Vehicle Registration numbers
2. Importer - Import Export Code (IEC) document issued by DGFT, Recall Plan (As per prescribed format)
3. Ecommerce Operator - Recall Plan
4. Trade Merchant/Exporter - Undertaking for not selling the food products in the domestic market, IEC Certificate
5. Food Services (Restaurants/Hotels) - Analysis report (Chemical & Bacteriological) of water to be used as an ingredient in food from a recognized/public health laboratory (In case asked by the department)

State and Central FSSAI License: Additional documents required

In addition to FSSAI basic registration documents, the following documents are required:

1. Rental Agreement/Ownership proof of premises along with the electricity bill is mandatory
2. Business Establishment certificate - Shop Act Registration, Trade Licenses, GST Registration (If Asked)
3. NOC from Municipality or local body (If Asked)
4. Turnover certificate/declaration (If Asked)

Time taken for FSSAI Registration in Bihar

1. FSSAI basic registration generally takes 7-10 days for approval,subject to authority approval.
2. FSSAI State and Central license has yet to have a fixed timeline for approval. It depends on queries raised by the department and its submission.
3. In case no revert is given by the department within 60 days on the application, it is auto-approved.

FSSAI License Renewal and Validity

1. The validity of the FSSAI depends on the applicant's wish. The FSSAI license offers a minimum of 1-year validity to a maximum of 5 years.
2. This can be renewed within 120-30 days before the due date of the certificate. If any applicant fails to renew their license within the due date, they shall be fined ₹ 100 per day for late renewal along with the FSSAI fee and registration.
